Recessed lights fixture

This type of fixtures require very strict guidelines for installation as they can generate very high temperatures within a given space, this makes them a fire hazard. Most fixtures of this type come with a junction box and 90°C wiring may run to this junction box. The fixture comes with a label providing information on the required conductor temperature.

  1. Recessed lights fixture requires an accessible junction box near if one does not exist.
  2. The branch circuit conductors are ran to the junction box, splicing them to the conductors that go to the recessed fixture
  3. The conductors on both the fixture and junction box must meet temperature requirements stated on the recessed fixture
  4. Place the junction box within one foot from the fixture so the heat of the fixture does not overheat wires in junction box. High temperature rated conductors need at least 4 feet of space between fixture and junction, but no more than 6 feet.
