Installing a Food Disposer

In order to avoid getting food clogged in the sink, a proper food disposer must be installed, ideally one with at least ½ horsepower.

How to install

  1. The disposal bottom plate must be removed, and each wire from the appliance cord must be stripped of insulation about ½”. Connect the white wires using wire nut and do the same with the black wires. Proceed to push the wires into the opening and replace bottom plate.
  2. The flange is attached to the drain opening using plumber’s putty and the fiber gasket , upper mounting and back up ring are inserted into the sleeve. Lock the rings in place by sliding the snap ring into place
  3. To mount the disposer the three mounting screws must be tightened. The lower mounting ring attaches to the disposer and is held against the top mounting ring, by turning the lower ring clockwise the disposer will be supported by the mounting assembly.
  4. Using the rubber washer and metal flange attach the discharge tube to the discharge opening on disposer.
  5. With a slip washer and nut attach the discharge tube to the continuous waste pipe.
  6. Tighten the screw on the lower mounting lug and turn the mounting clockwise until it locks. Tighten all drain slips and nuts.
