Electrician Safety First
Before working on wiring, switches, or receptacles it is very important that all power sources are turned off, whether you are working on new construction or remodeling work the risk of serious injury or death is present. Most homes have 120 volts running between conductors “hot” and “neutral” any contact between these conductors will result in a 240 volt shock. In the event of a short circuit or ground faults an “arc blast” can occur, these are tiny pieces of copper that fly out with temperatures as high as the sun.
There are many ways to get electrocuted while working around live wires; it could be that a tool falls on them, cutting into conductors, or metal shavings falling into live parts from drilling. It is equally important to practice cleanliness around the work area as dirt, moisture and debris are also factors for electrical malfunction.
